  8. What hardware is needed?

    All you need is a home computer with Windows, a sound card, a web cam with a microphone (built-in or external), and you’re good to go. Most computer or electronics stores carry these items. Or, check out our store.

    To use CV One you need Windows operating system, like Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista.

  10. What is the recommended bandwidth for using CV One®?

    We recommend a DSL or better high-speed connection to ensure that CV One is running smoothly on your PC or laptop.

  11. How can I set up my video script?

    CV One allows you to divide your video into individual parts and record them separately. This will also allow the viewer to jump back and forth easily between the different segments such as “Introduction”, “Academic Background”, or “Practical Experience”. Just click on “Create script” and set up as many videos as you want.

  12. How long should each video segment be?

    The allowed maximum of each video segment is 5 minutes. The recording stops after the maximum has been reached. Please keep in mind that recruiters might prefer a short and concise presentation. Try to manage between 1 and 3 minutes.

  13. What should I do if I don’t like my recordings?

    Just select the relevant video and click on “Record”. This will overwrite the old video. Record as many times as you like.

  14. How should I dress on camera?

    The answer is easy: Dress the same as you would for a job interview. This depends to some extend on the industry you are dealing with. Just keep in mind that a professional appearance will tell the audience that you are serious about the message you are delivering. In general, you can't go wrong with a business suit or formal dress in a neutral color.

  15. What should the background look like when recording the video?

    Keep in mind that the background will be seen by the recruiter. So, try to set up a professional background such as a blank wall or a nice room. You might want to try out different lighting schemes and test what looks best.

  16. Can I have a friend or family member asking me questions when recording my video?

    Sure, go ahead. This might also make it easier for you to not get lost in your video presentation. It is up to you whether you want the interviewer to be seen on camera or not. Most choose not to have the person that is interviewing be seen on video.

    Yes. Just like with a traditional job application, attachments such as transcripts, certificates, reference letters, etc. are a must. You may upload these documents by clicking on “Browse”.

    Yes, you can select between different layouts and designs, colors, font styles, and font sizes to give your job application an even more individual touch.

    Yes, CV One offers a variety of sample video resumes and sample CVs. Use them to get inspired. Just click on “Templates”.

  21. On what server will my video resume be hosted?

    You have the choice between hosting your video resume on the CV One server and uploading onto your own server or ftp space. Most users prefer to have us host their video resume.

  22. How do I send my video resume to potential employers?

    It’s easy, fast and secure. After you have recorded your video resume, you will be asked to compress and publish it. Then, you will be provided with an html link which leads to your personal web page, i.e. http://yourname.gocvone.com. Just copy this link and send it to any company or person you want.

  23. Do recruiters and employers reply directly to me or through www.gocvone.com?

    Everyone you send your link to will contact you directly. We are not a recruiting company or a job website, we are just the video resume software provider.

  24. How can I be sure that my video resume file isn’t too big for employers to open?

    No worries. We don't make you send a huge file with the video resume plus all related documents. Instead, we just provide you with a web link. Therefore, there is no need to worry about the size of sending your application. Recruiters will love it!

  25. Can I post my CV One® video resume on other websites such as MySpace.com, Facebook.com, LinkedIn.com or my own private website?

    Sure, use your private website or social networking sites to post your video link. This will help you address more people and introduce yourself to a wider audience.

  26. Is CV One® secure?

    It is safe to download CV One to your computer. If your video resume is hosted on our server, this server is also protected (except CV One FTP customers). The person who will receive your video resume can also feel safe, since you do not send out actual files but give them a web link instead.

  27. How can I delete my account on gocvone.com?

    To delete your account on CV One, first log in. Click on “My Account” and then on “Edit Profile”. At the bottom you will find the link to delete your account. Note: this will delete your web page including your videos and all related documents.

  28. What else do I need to consider when recording my video?

    Our experience shows that many users tend to not look directly into the camera.  Instead of letting your eyes drift, make sure to look directly into the webcam and avoid moving your head too much.  You will be perceived as more confident and secure.

  29. In which format should the attachments be saved and uploaded?

    Many formats such as Word, pdf or html are accepted. We recommend pdf or html files, in order to guarantee good results for all different kinds of web browsers.
